Back to "Normal"

Whelp, now that we did that whole buying a house thing, we finally get to settle in and get back to our regularly scheduled programs...you know, the mundane, regular ol' life we have.  Ha! Not that I would ever want to describe life like that, but y'all know this life we are living is anything but boring! Last weekend Matty did not have class for the first time in months, so he was the best and took Maddie to gymnastics class while I got a little manicure/pedicure and some quiet, alone time with a Starbucks. Then we all went to our friend's birthday party who happens to also be the mama of Maddie's very best friend. We had a blast swimming in the pool, watching the girls play and getting down and dirty with an ice cream cake. On the way home Maddie passed right out, leaving us time to run some errands and pick up my packet for the tri on Sunday.  Speaking of the tri....here is how that went: We were up bright and early to get to South...

Tri Training, Week Four

Four weeks down and three to go before I attempt to not drown/crash/lay down before the finish line at the Boston Tri. The good news is, I know how to ride a bike and run, the bad news is that it is really hard to run when you get off a bike and the worst news is that I still pretty much suck at swimming the "right way". I am excited for the tri because I always like to have a goal to work on, but I am really more excited to have it done with so I can go back to distance training (which is so crazy, thinking back to all those frozen tears training through the polar vortex). This is definitely a grass is greener situation. I thought that it would be fun to mix up my routine of just running and (not enough) yoga, and it has been, but only to a point and the real point is that I miss my running. I went from putting in thirty plus miles a week leading up to the Maine Coast Marathon, jumped into the Johnny Kelley half a week later and then gave myself a lazy recovery period that b...

Me versus Me

My favorite recovery method: sand, my family and a chair. My body is so tired today. But I did it. Today I dragged myself out of bed, grabbed the gear that I had (cleverly) laid out for myself in the short time we were home between a race, the beach and a cook out and headed to the Y. I got into the pool, looked at the clock (thanks to my lane neighbor for recognizing the clueless looking around I was doing and pointing it out) and I swam, officially kicking off my triathlon training. One week late, but it is happening. When my fifteen minutes were up, I walked my dripping body into the locker room, changed clothes, and managed the thirty minutes in my training plan on the dreadmill. I ran the BAA 10k yesterday and really, really pushed myself to reach a good time; unfortunately it was a crowded course and it took me .6 miles just to get through the thick of people who don't seem to understand pacing corrals, or were not honest with themselves when lining up. I h...
