Currently // Summer is Flying

Happy Friday before another sunny weekend! Had to say that because my last Currently post was all about longing for summer, the Cape and bike rides to the beach and that is exactly what we have been doing each and every weekend. Awful winters mean making the most out of beautiful summers, after all.
Just a light post after my not so light post to head into the weekend. We are heading down to the RiverFest near our house tomorrow to enjoy the outdoors and hopefully put our canoe in the water and then Sunday will be all about the beach. Hope your outlook is just as bright!

Reading
I am almost done with Manhattan Beach, which I picked up after reading an excerpt in Vogue. It started off great - very old New York mafia noir, with a woman at the center of it all (and writing it) but the end has me a little less excited. I'll see how the author wraps it up before a final judgement, but definitely recommend either way! I have I'll Be Gone in the Dark waiting for me in my pile and I am really excited to start it, though not sure how the recent capture of the Golden State Killer will factor into my enjoyment (spoiler alert). The ladies of My Favorite Murder podcast have done some great coverage on the book and the recent arrest so I feel like I at least need to get caught up knowledge wise so I can continue to follow along!

Eating
I pack my lunch everyday because I spend my lunch hour at the gym but I had to grab something this week after deciding I could not do another day of chicken and rice from home, and picked up a Green Goddess cobb salad from Panera. I know it is so basic millenial of me, but honestly, best salad ever! So, I looked up the cheat sheet to make my own (including the dressing) and that is what I am going to be packing for my post-gym lunches next week.

Thinking About
A few months ago we read Dave Ramsey's books to assist us with looking at our budget and how we spend our money. Disclaimer: he is not for everyone and has some flaws in his personality (like he can be kind of a dick) but he has some really great tactics rooted in pure common sense. Since then, we have been operating on a cash only budget, broken down into weekly spending (groceries, gas, money towards the kids activities, etc) and using money towards what he calls a "debt snowball". Although we are not rich (yet, haha) it has helped us to think about how much we spend any given day by actually handing cash over and given us the opportunity to more openly talk about money and future goals, which used to be a struggle for us. I will probably spend a whole blog on this soon, but I have been thinking lately about how I can continue to save money on everyday things so we can prioritize how we spend, even starting a spreadsheet to break down our regular grocery items at the grocery store versus Boxed versus going out of the city to buy them. Why I can't overdo everything I do is a mystery :)

Listening
I am in a bit of a musical rut, which I blame on Apple Music for always having a trustworthy album in my curated tab to listen to, and the fact that I mostly use music for background noise while I am reading on the T. I am such a person of habit: WBUR at home in the mornings while we are getting ready, My Favorite Murder on the walk to the T and from the T to my office, and music in the background on the T. Oh, and Taylor Swift/Jo Jo Siwa/Kidz Bop on rotation in the car....guess it is time to update my preference on Apple Music and hope for the best!

Watching
The Tour de France! Matt and I have tuned in every summer for years and years and there is honestly nothing more soothing before bed than watching hundreds of bikes in formation along the most beautiful scenery. Until they crash and the broadcasters start talking shit, which is my second favorite thing about it. One of our travel bucket list items is to go in person and be the lunatics on the side of the road screaming and waving flags at the riders - can't wait!

Loving
Summer! Although we are still busy, because when are we ever not, it is nice to have a little less rushing in the mornings and a little less worry about bedtimes in the evenings. Paired with beach trips every weekend and all the fresh fruit = so much love.

I swear she is enjoying herself! She is so happy being COVERED in sand.

Ice cream at bedtime - always a great idea.

And sugar for breakfast! Breaking all the rules in the summer!

A Day in the Life: Food Edition

If you haven't figured it out from this here blog, my life is pretty darn busy but I crave routine and do a pretty good job at sticking to a "regular" schedule, even if it does start at 5am and end sometime after 10pm. One of my most consistent things in life is definitely my eating. I love to eat, and love trying new foods and new restaurants but during the week I am the most boring person ever because I literally eat the same things at the same time every single day. At dinner, we get buck wild, but between 5 and 5, I am like a senior citizen. Here is a day in the life of what I am munching on: 5:00am (or whenever I stop hitting snooze) : one cup of coffee brewed at home with a hefty splash of half and half. I recently switched to the "light cream" store brand but that is as low on the fat as I will go - milk just does not do it for me like cream does. Post-run/workout (around 6:45) : second cup of coffee with cream Commute breakfast (between 7:1

Monday night and half a bottle of riesling.

You may be asking yourself now, "why the hell does Stef need a blog, she spends too much damn time on myspace/facebook/perezhilton as it is". Well, I have one because I need one. I get writers cramp too bad to keep a journal, and I can drink and type with much more ease. But really, I think this will be a good way to organize my thoughts, and keep my scattered friends better posted on my life. When your closest friends span from Seattle to Spain, it can be hard to keep them up to the minute on the important things in life - like what I'm doing on any given Monday night. (The answer tonight is sitting on the couch watching the Red Sox, while Matty reads the Augusten Burroughs book I just finished, having just ate a super yummy "smothered pork chop" dish that said Matty made, and applying for jobs at the Crime and Justice Institute). I really just plan on rambling on about my life, and sharing things that I think you ought to know like if Matty and I went for a bi

Good-Bye Green Line

Tonight is officially my last night as an Allstonian. Or a Brightonian. I won't even live off the green line after I wake up tomorrow morning. No more 45 minute train rides that stop every block, no more "This train will run express to Packard's Corner". Tomorrow when I wake up I will pack the cat into his carrier, grab my purse and my husband will drive me and this baby in my belly to Dorchester, to our home, where we will have our first baby, our first wedding anniversary, where we will be "mom and dad" for the first time instead of just "husband and wife" or "Stef and Matty". I will use the vacuum cleaner Matty bought last night, the first new vacuum cleaner I have ever owned in my twenty nine years, and I will hang up pictures from our wedding, our trips to other states and time zones, pictures of our friends and our families. And on Monday I will wake up and catch the Red Line into work. It won't take too long, despite being fart
